Canadian Development
Through the application of modern technologies, Canadian energy companies are leaders in the exploration, development, and recovery of oil and gas resources worldwide. They invest in international projects and provide services in the exploration, development and production of crude oil, natural gas and related products. Canadians also are leaders in transporting and marketing these resources.
Examples of Canadian companies working abroad include:
- In Yemen, a Canadian company is the largest oil and gas operator and has developed excellent relationships with the government and communities near its operations. Since 1996, this company has provided 80 scholarships for Yemini students to continue their education in Canada.
- A Canadian company worked with Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario to develop a chemical production engineering technology program. In 2004 the company provided co-op work placements to 23 students and hired nine of the program's graduates.
- A Canadian company previously was the largest private sector oil investor and producer in Ecuador.
- A Canadian company collaborated in the world's largest 2002 gas discovery in the Krishna Godavari basin in eastern India.
- In Kazakhstan, a Canadian company is the second largest foreign producer, the largest integrated company and the largest supplier of refined products.
- A Canadian company transports approximately 50% of all deep-water gas production in the Gulf of Mexico; and operates the world's longest crude oil and liquids transportation system.
- In Trinidad and Tobago, a Canadian company is a partner in the largest oil discovery in the past 20 years, with production start-up in January 2005.
- In a pure oil play in Libya, a Canadian company achieved a number of firsts by 2007 versus operators of the other 14 blocks awarded in the first bid round: first to drill, first to make a discovery, and first to complete the minimum seismic and drilling commitment.
